MAHINDRA HYALFA - First Hydrogen Fueled 3 wheeler

Meet the first hydrogen fueled 3 wheeler.

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.(M&M) launched its hydrogen-fuelled 3 wheeler, the Hyalfa at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi. It took over three years to complete this project. The Hyalfa has positioned the Manufacturer as the world’s first manufacturer to produce a 3 wheeler that is powered by hydrogen.  The aim to reduce pollution is being carried out by Mahindra and Mahindra by using compressed hydrogen which is pollution free. Hydrogen, in fact, is the fuel of tomorrow and is the long term solution to the pollution and CO2 emission related concerns. The cutting edge technology is aimed at providing eco-friendly mobility solutions. It can run around 80 km with 1 kg of Hydrogen. It can catch a top speed of 65 km/hr. 15 vehicles of this model have been prepared for addition of the improved engine, fuelling and storing system, and other safety features. Currently the vehicle is not for commercial production because it has not proved itself as commercially viable.

Its estimated price is Rs. 20,000 costlier than the CNG 3 wheeler model. Huge capital is being invested in the research and development of this vehicle, which will render the vehicle to be more competent as compared to the CNG powered 3 wheelers.
